DATE: Saturday, August 22, 2026
TIME (Max): 6 Hours (8:00 AM – 2:00 PM)
LOCATION: Nissequogue River & Sunken Meadow State Parks

Kings Park, LI, NY: Our second annual race links the scenic waters of the Nissequogue River to the trails of the Nissequogue River State Park and Sunken Meadow State Park.
Complete a 6-hour route featuring both Mandatory and Optional checkpoints. Optional points lengthen the course and increase difficulty for a true navigational test.
If you prefer a shorter experience, you can complete one or two individual segments:
Kayak-O Start: Paddle either before or after the full racers start at 8am.
Bike or Trek Start: Start anytime between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM and finish by 2:00 PM.
Paddle the Nissequogue River on the outgoing tide for about 5/6 (mandatory/total) miles
Mountain bike about 7/11 (mandatory/total) miles through the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center and over to and through Sunken Meadow State Park and back to Nissequogue River State Park
Trek about 4/6 (mandatory/total) miles through the Nissequogue River State Park

Submission: Email the completed forms to GMalings@gmail.com or mail them to: Glen Malings, 19 Black Rock Road, Glen Head, NY 11545

Shuttle: The rental company will provide a shuttle to the start area (Paul Givens Park) for full racers, or a return shuttle to your car if completing the Kayak-O only.
If You Have Your Own Boat: Drop it at Paul Given Park, drive one car back to NRSP, and take the rental shuttle back to the start. Private boats must be portaged approximately ¼ mile to the public parking lot for loading after the race.
7:00 AM Meeting Time: Meet at the Nissequogue River State Park northwest parking lot [INSERT LINK HERE]. (State Park parking fee is charged after 8:00 AM). Receive final maps, control sheets, and lock bikes.
7:30 AM Shuttle: to Paul Givens Park where Kayaks will be available. Ensure you have all your gear (Life jackets, paddles, river map, and any personal items) in your kayak and you know where to launch.
8:00 AM Start - PROLOGUE: Navigate on foot (decide whether to run in your water shoes or not) though the woods under the train bridge. This will spread out racers before the kayak start.
SEGMENT 1 PADDLE: Finish the prologue and launch your kayak. High tide is at 7:56 AM so the outgoing tide will have started. Navigate mandatory and optional checkpoints along the tidal Nissequogue River, finishing at the bluff below the NRSP marina. (Note: Look for historic buildings from the old Kings Park Psychiatric Center on the hill as you approach the finish).
SEGMENT 2 BIKE: Ride through the grounds of the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center, locating checkpoints hidden among trails and abandoned buildings. Route links to Sunken Meadow State Park trail systems.
SEGMENT 3 TREK: Navigate sections of Nissequogue River State Park on both sides of St. Johnland Road and Sunken Meadow State Park.
TRANSITION AREA is the parking lots (map) and the registration finish line is the pavilion (map). They are in the NE section of the park

Restrooms: NYS DEC building (left after park entrance) and the Administration building (bottom of hill).
